What is Ectoplasm?

We all know the movie that mentioned ectoplasm. Let’s answer the question of “what is ectoplasm”

According to dictionary.com, the definition for ectoplasm is

1.Biology. the outer portion of the cytoplasm of a cell.

2.Spiritualism. the supposed emanation from the body of a medium.

The word was first recorded between 1880-1885.

According to merriam-webster.com, the definition for ectoplasm is:

1.The outer relatively rigid granule-free layer of the cytoplasm usually held to be a gel reversibly convertible to a solid.

2.A substance held to produce spirit materialisation and telekinesis.

This stuff sounds familiar. Is it the stuff the Ghostbusters kept talking about?

As urbandictionary.com tells us ectoplasm is:

“Odd and elusive substance that is reported to be totally repulsive. It is a seemingly lifelike substance, solid or vaporous in nature, that allegedly exudes from the body of the medium and can be transformed into materialised┬álimbs, faces and even the entire bodies of spirits. Ectoplasm often appears to be milky white in colour and smells like ozone.”

Yup, sure enough, ectoplasm is the stuff those Ghostbusters were talking about. It’s the slime. Wow, who thought we could learn something from pop culture?
